Identify the situation for the conversation between Quan and Linda (setting, participants, topics) 2. Ask and answer their friends about some opinions of a book, a story or character, using the sentence patterns “What do you think of ... ? I think ... .” 3. Show interest and love stories by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about some opinions of a book, a story or character Key terms/ Vocabulary mouse, intelligent, hard- working, greedy, kind.... Let’s play interaction Questions & answers STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warmer: Greeting and singing the song - Greet the students. Then get the class to sing the song “Baby shark” from - Guess the name’s story through video. - Tell students that they are going to read a dialogue in which students ask and answer questions about some opinions of a book, a story or character and lead students to the new lesson. Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Have Ss look at the book on page 26; identify the characters in the pictures and what they are saying. + Who are they? + Where are they? + What are they talking about? - Play the recording and asks Ss to listen to the tape twice - Explain the meaning of the new words: - T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus three times. - Have Ss listen to the recording as they read the lines in the speech bubbles - Play the recording again for Ss to repeat the dialogue two times. - Let Ss practice the dialogue in pairs. - Get some pairs to read aloud. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech . - T elicits the structures by asking Ss to speak out the model sentence: Form: What do you think of the two brothers ? I think the older brother is very greedy Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Point and say.) - Have sts see the pictures and identify the places in the pictures - T runs through. - T asks Ss to match the pictures with activities in their free time using Sach Mem. 3 - T models: T: What do you think of the mouse ? S: I think the older brother is very intelligent. - Open-pairs; close-pairs. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. - Have Ss look and describe 4 pictures - Ask Ss to read aloud 4 pictures - Ask Ss to practice asking and answering about some opinions of a book, a story or character using picture a, b, c and d. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation - Some Ss report in front of class. Others observe and give comments if possible. - Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation. - T gives a comment. Task 2: Guided practice (information gap activity) Tell your partners - Say:“ You are going to practice answering the question about a book ,a story or a character ’’ - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering a book ,a story or a character - Do the task with one pupil as a model. Put the sentences on the board and do choral and individual repetition. Go around offering help and correcting pronunciation, if necessary. - Select some pairs of pupils to role-play in front of the class. Activity 4: listening practice (Activity 4: Listen and tick) -Tell the class that they are going to listen to the recording and tick the correct pictures in their books. - Ask them to look at all the pictures to identify the characters and what they do to practise English. Then play the recording all the way through for them to listen. Play it again for them to do the task. - Get Ss to compare their answers before checking as a class. Give explanations for answers which pupils find difficult. Play the recording again to confirm the answers. Key: 1.c 2.a 3.a Activity 4: Writing practice (Activity 5: Write about your favorite book) - Tell pupils that they are going to write sentences about yourselves. - Have them work in pairs or groups to discuss what they are going to write. - Give pupils time to do the task independently. Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. - Some sts go to the board and write down their answer - Others give comments. 4 -T gets feedback. - Correct mistakes - T emphasizes some main points - Do choral and individual repetition Activity 5: Play practice (Activity 6: Let’s play) - Tell the class that they are going to play a Storytelling game. Tell them that the aim of the game is to tell the story . - Explain how to play the game: ask pupils to work in groups of five. One pupil is the leader and each of the other four holds a word card with part of a sentence, such as: One day , Kim Hung got angry with Mai An Tiem...... - Set a time limit for the groups to play the game. Monitor the activity - Call on two groups to play the game in front of the class. Remember to praise pupils who do well. Activity 6: Wrap -up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Ask and answer their friends' opinions of a book, a story or character by using the sentence patterns “What do you think of ... ? I think ... ) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Show interest and love stories by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about some opinions of a book, a story or character ) - Prepare for the next lesson. Show interest and love stories by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about some opinions of a book, a story or character B. Then get the class to sing the song “hello song” Activity 1: Pronunciation practice (Activity 1: Listen and repeat on page 28) - Tell the class that they are going to practise saying sentences with falling intonation. - Explain that a negative command or a wh-question is pronounced with a falling tone. For example, What happened in the story? First King Hung ordered Mai An Tiem and his family to live on an island. - Play the recording all the way through for them to listen and follow in their books. - Play it again for them to repeat the sentences twice. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and follow in their books. Then say the sentences aloud page 16) - Tell the class that they are going to listen and circle a or b to complete the sentences. - Give pupils a few seconds to read the sentences in silence before playing the recording for them to do the task. - Get pupils to compare their answers in pairs before checking as a class. - Tell them to ask and answer the questions in pairs. Key: 1 .b 2. b 3 .a 4 .a 7 Activity 3: Listening practice (Activity 3: Listen to the story) - Ss listen to the tape & read the chant line by line. - Ss practise chanting: one chants the questions and the other chants the answers. - Ss practise chanting and doing actions. - 2 groups to say the chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. Activity 4: Reading and writing practice (Activity 4: Read and write) - Tell the class that they are going to read the text and write the answer. - Get pupils to read the answer. Explain the unfamiliar words, if necessary. - Set a time limit for them to do the task independently. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. - Have pupils swap and compare their answers before checking as a class. - Ask them to work in pairs and tell each other how to answer the question. Key: 1. She likes reading folk tales. 2. She thinks they are usually short and interesting. 3. She thinks the characters are sometimes honest, sometimes greedy, sometimes wise, sometimes stupid. 4. She thinks the fox was clever and the crow was not. 5. Because each of them gives her a lesson in life. Activity 5: Writing practice (Activity 5: Write about the characters in your favorite story) - Tell the class that they are going to write about the characters in their favorite story. - Have them the time to work in pairs or groups to decide on a story and discuss what they are going to write. - Give Ss time to do the task independently.Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary. - Get them to swap their answers and then read their answers aloud. Activity 6: Guided practice (Activity 6: Project) - Tell Ss that they are going to tell a story and say what they think of the characters. - Have them the time to work in pairs or groups to decide which to tell the class and what they think of characters. - Set a time limit for them to discuss and write notes. Select two or three groups to tell the stories and their opinions on the characters. Activity 7: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Intonation in sentences with the correct intonation .) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? 8 (Show interest and love stories by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering about some opinions of a book, a story or character ) - Prepare for the next lesson (Unit 15, Lesson 1 on pages 30, 31).
