 STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES
A. OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, students will be able to:
1. identify the situation for the conversation between Linda and Mai (setting, 
participants, topics).
2. Ask and answer questions about the location of a place using: where’s ? 
It’s in Viet Nam.
3. show love others by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking 
and answering about the location of a place.
- Know your place or your hometown

 STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN
Warmer: Greeting and playing game.
- Greet the students.
- play game: Shark attack (where)
-Monitor the activity.
- Give comments 
- Tell students that they are going to listen to the dialogue in which Mai and 
Linda are talking about the location of a place.
Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.)
- Ask students to look at the two pictures (page 64) and answer questions to 
identify the situation for the conversation.
1. Who are they? (Mai and Linda)
2. Where are they? (at home)
3. What are they doing?( talking)
- Ask students to look at picture b (Activity 1) (page 64) and answer the 
following questions: 
4. What does Linda ask? (where’s Sa Pa?)
5. What does Mai answer? (It’s in Viet Nam) 
- Elicit the sentence patterns “ where’s ̶ It’s 
- Tell students that they are going to practise asking and answering questions 
about about the location of a place.
- Play the recording more than once, if necessary, ask students to listen and 
repeat the dialogue 
- Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking.
- Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat. 
Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled
Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Point and say.)
- Use pictures to elicit: North, south, central, Ha Long Bay.
- Point to the first picture and model the task with one student, using the 
expressions in the bubbles and the word under the picture. 
Teacher: where’s Ha Noi ? Student: It’s in North Viet Nam
- Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same 
procedure with the rest of the pictures. 
- Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the 
pictures. 
- Call on some pairs to role-play the dialogue in front of the class. Monitor the 
activity and offer help, if necessary. 
Task 2: less controlled. Ask and answer questions the location of a place
Show some pictures about places 
- Have students choose the picture that they can tell questions the location of 
a place using “ where’s ? It’s in Viet Nam ” - Ask them to interview 3 or 4 friends: one student asks the question and the 
other answers and then exchange the roles.
- Monitor the activity and offer help if necessary. 
- Call on some groups of students to role-play in front of the class. .
Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments
- Ask students to answer the following questions: 
 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? 
(talk about the location of a place and use the sentence pattern “where’s ? 
It’s in Viet Nam.
2. What are the core values of the lesson? 
- Know your place or your hometown 
- Remind students to prepare for the next lesson lesson 1(4-6)

 1. Identify specific information through listening to conversations to 
complete with one word.
 2. Listen and complete with one word.
 3. Read the paragraph and complete the sentences.
 4. Write about themselves, using the guiding questions.
 5. Ss help their parents to do housework and complete the homework 
before class.

 - Guide Ss to do the task.
 - Play the tape. 
 - Play the tape again.
 - Choose one or two Ss to share their answers with their classmates.
 - Replay the tape.
 - Have Ss to trade their answer in pairs for correction.
 Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice
 Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Read and write.)
 - Have Ss open their books to page 65.
 - Tell Ss that they are going to look at the pictures, read the sentences and 
complete them.
 - Ask Ss look, read individually and complete each sentence.
 - Ask Ss trade their answers within pairs or groups for correction.
 - Ask 2-3 Ss to read their answers aloud to the class.
 - Listen and give comments.
 - Have the whole class repeat each line of the dialogue.
 Task 2: Guided practice (Activity 3. Let’s write)
 - Tell ss that they are going to write the answers about themselves
 - Give ss a few seconds to read the questions in silence.
 - Call one student to the front of the class to give a demonstration as an 
example - Get a few ss to read their writing to the class.
 - Call a few ss to write their answers on the board.
 Activity 3: Wrap –up & Assignments
 - T asks Ss about what they have leanrt in their lesson today.
 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? 
 - Identify specific information through listening to conversations to 
complete with one word. Practice reading ang writing more.
 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Ss help their parents to do 
housework and complete the homework before class)
 - Remind students to learn by heat vocabulary, sentence patterns and 
revise. 
 - Prepare Unit 20: Lesson 2.
