LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED + LISTEN AND READ
I. OBJECTIVES: 
By the end of the lesson students will be able to use the telephone to make and confirm arragements.
II. PREPARATIONS: Textbook, pictures.
III. PROCEDURES:

1/ Warm-up: (8’)
- Introduce: “There are many things to help you speaking to people away from you. What are they?”
- Ask Ss to look at the items in the textbook and ask what are they?
- Teach some vocabularies 
I. Getting started:
+ fax machine (n) máy fax
+ mobile phone (n) điện thoại di động
+ telephone directory (n) danh bạ điện thoại
+ answering machine (n) máy trả lời điện thoại
- Ask Ss to match each object (pictures on page 18) with its name
- Listen and answer
telephone, mobile phone, Internet…
- Observe
- Take note
- Do the matching ( whole class)
 *Answers: a-5, b-6 ,c-1, d-2, e-4, f-3
2/ Presentation: (7’)
- Introduce the context of the dialogue. 
- Give Ss a task and play the tape.
Task 1 : 
1. What is Nga calling about ?
2. Who made the call?
- Listen.
- Do the task.
3/ Practice: (13’)
- Have Ss practice the dialogue in pair.
- Ask Ss to read the conversation to check their ideas .Gives correct answers

- Ask Ss to answer the question:
Which movie are they going to see?
- Remind the structure with “be going to” to talk about intentions.
- Answer the question

- Have Ss:
 + Practice reading the dialogue again.
 + Do Language focus 1.
 + Prepare Unit 2 Making arrangement (SPEAK + LISTEN).

 + Listen to take a message.

1/ Warm-up: (6’)
- Present the situation and have Ss to work in pairs to put the sentences in the correct order.
- Correct.

- Work in pairs
- Practice the dialogue that they have just arrange.
2/ Pre-speaking: (15’)
- Show the picture, give the situation.
- Hang the sub board with an Open dialogue.
- Correct.

Bao: I’m fine.Thanks. And you ?
Bao : Can you play chess tonight?
Bao :What about tomorrow afternoon ?
Bao : I’ll meet you at the Central Chess Club
Bao : Is 2:00 o’clock all right ?
- Call some pairs to play role.
- Listen.
- Work in pairs to complete the dialogue.
- Listen carefully.

3/ While-speaking: (14’)
- Ask Ss to work in pairs to make similar arrangements.

Hoa : Hello, Lan. How are you ?
Lan: I’m fine.Thanks. And you ?
Hoa : Great. Me too
Lan : Can you play badminton tomorrow morning?
Hoa : I’m sorry. I can’t play badminton tomorrow morning. I’m going to do my homework
Lan :What about tomorrow afternoon at 5.30 p.m ?
Hoa : Yes. It is fine.
Lan : I’ll meet you at your house.
Hoa : Ok. Let’s meet at my house.

- Introduce the situation and show the notes.
