OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Identify the situation for the conversation among Akiko, Tony and Nam (setting, participants, topics); 2. Ask and answer questions about means of transport, using the sentence patterns “ How can I get to .....? You can ..... ” 3.Know the way to help somone get to some places that they want . B. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 5: Student’s book page 42 - Track (Unit 16), - 4 pictures of activities (Activity 2 – page 42) - Situational pictures and character cards - a computer and a projector. Present Unit 16. Point at the title and read it twice for Ss to repeat. Check comprehension and give feedback. Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat - Ask students to look at the four pictures (page 42) and answer questions to identify the situation for the conversation. 1. Who are they? (They are Akiko, Tony and Nam) 2. Where are they? ( out side) 3. What are they doing?( talking about means of transport.) - Tell students that they are going to listen a conversation among Akiko, Tony and Nam - Play the recording, ask students to listen and repeat the dialogue - Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking. - Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat. - Elicit the sentence pattern : “How can I get to .....? You can .....” and explain the meaning and the use. Activity 2: full Controlled & less controlled Task 1: Point and say - Elicit the new words: Walk, coach, boat, plane - Point to the first picture and model the task with one student, using the expressions in the bubbles and the word under the picture. Teacher: How can I get to the post office? Student: You can walk for five minutes - Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures. - Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the pictures. - Call on some pairs to ask ans answer about. Task 2: Let’s talk - Show some pictures about some places. - Ask them to work in pairsto ask and answer about questions about means of transport, using “ How can I get to .....? You can .....”. - Monitor the activity and offer help if necessary. - Call on some pairs to role -play in front of the class. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Ask and answer questions about means of transport, using the sentence patterns “How can I get to .....? You can ..... ”) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? Know the way to help somone get to some places that they want . - Remind students to prepare for the next lesson. D. Then ask and answer 3. Activity 1: Pronunciation practice (Activity 1: Listen and repeat on page 34) - Tell the class that they are going to practise saying sentences with falling intonation. - Explain that a negative command or a wh-question is pronounced with a falling tone. For example, Where’s the post office? It’s opposite the stadium. - Play the recording all the way through for them to listen and follow in their books. - Play it again for them to repeat the sentences twice. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and follow in their books. Then play it again for them to repeat the sentences twice. *Note: Wh-questions usually have a falling intonation, which can be marked with an arrow like this at the end. Activity 2: Listening practice (Activity 2: Listen and circle a or b. Then ask and answer.) - Read the sentences in silence before listening the recording to do the task. - Ss listen the recording 2 times and circle a or b to complete sentences. - Compare the answers each other before checking as a class. - 3- 4 Ss give the keys. The rest of the class observe and give comments. Key: 1.a 2.a 3. b Activity 3: Chant practice (Activity 3: Let’s chant on page 44) - Show the chart of the chant “How can we get there?’’ - Tell pupils that they are going to say the chant ‘’How can we get there?’’ - Follow the procedure in Teaching the unit components in Introduction. - Have them read the chant and check comprehension. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. - Show them how to chant and do actions. Call two groups to give a demonstration. - Get groups to sit opposite of each other and practice chanting and doing actions. Go around offering help, if necessary. - Call two groups to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. Activity 4: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. Where’s the post office? (say questions and answers with the correct intonation.) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Show polite attitude by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and giving for directions) - Remind students to do part 4 (Read and tick True or False), part5 ( Write the directions) and part 6 (project) (Unit 16, Lesson 3 on pages 45). (setting, participants, topics) 2. Ask and answer their friends about what they would like to eat and drink, using the sentence patterns “What would you like to eat/ drink ...? I’d like ..., please.” 3. Show polite attitude by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering what they would like to eat and drink Key terms/ Vocabulary A packet of biscuits, a bar of chocolate, a glass of orange juice, a carton of lemonade Key grammatical structure What would you like to eat/ drink ...? Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Have Ss to look at the book on page 46 ; identify the characters in the pictures and what they are saying. + Who are they? + Where are they? + What are they talking about? - Play the recording and asks Ss to listen to the tape twice - Explain the meaning of the new words: - T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus three times. - Have Ss listen to the recording as they read the lines in the speech bubbles - Play the recording again for Ss to repeat the dialogue two times. - Let Ss practice the dialogue in pairs. - Gets some pairs to read it aloud. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech . - T elicits the structures by asking Ss to speak out the model sentence: Model sentences: What would you like to eat? Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Point and say.) - Have sts see the pictures and identify the places in the pictures - T runs through. - T asks Ss to match the pictures with the health problems using Sach Mem. - T models: T: What would you like to eat? S: I’d like a packet of biscuits. - Open-pairs; close-pairs. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. - Have Ss look and describe 4 pictures - Ask Ss to read aloud 4 pictures - Ask Ss to practice asking and answering about what someone is going to do on Sports Day using picture a, b, c and d. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation - Some Ss report in front of class. Others observe and give comments if possible. - Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation. - T gives comment. Task 2: Guided practice (information gap activity) Tell your partners - Say: “ You are going to practice answering the question about your daily food and drinks.’’ - Tell pupils that they are going to practise asking and answering about your daily food and drinks. - Do the task with one pupil as a model. Put the sentences on the board and do choral and individual repetition. Go around offering help and correcting pronunciation, if necessary. - Select some pairs of pupils to role-play in front of the class. Activity 3: Wrap -up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Ask and answer their friends about what they would like to eat and drink, using the sentence patterns “What would you like to eat/ drink ...? I’d like ..., please.”) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson?
