AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
• Language content : + To introduce Ss to the passage about Ss’ first impressions of university
• life
+ To provide Ss with some new words relating to the topic
• Language function: + Reading the passage for specific information and guessing

• Educational aim : At the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to:
- develop their reading comprehension
- take a chance to talk about their plan for higher education

Lead-in -shows out : “An application form, an identify card, a birth certificate, a curriculum vitae” -makes a question: “When do you need these things?” -gives feedback Expected answer : when we want to apply for a job or apply to a university -tells the aim of the lesson: Talk about the application process to tertiary study in Vietnam II. Pre- Practice -asks Ss tolook at the table in task 1 -introduces some new words New words: + Pre-school(n) : nursery school and kindergarten (Picture) + lower secondary (Picture) + upper secondary (Picture) -checks understanding of the new words III. Practice Task 1 - asks Ss to work in groups to tick (P)those which are obligatory for them to be admitted to a university in Vietnam in task 1. -lets Ss do in 2 minutes -calls on some pairs to stand up and act out the conversations -gives feedback The keys: + an application form + an identify card + a copy of the originals of your school certificate + a birth certificate + a copy of the record of your performance at school + scores of the required entrance examination Task 2 -asks Ss to work in pairs , ask and answer the questions about the application process to tertiary study in Vietnam, using the information in the table Ex: + When do you fill in and send the application + In march … -lets Ss do in 6 minutes -calls on some pairs ask and answer -gives feedback IV. Language: a) Vocabulary : proportion, majority, tutorial, … b) Grammar : no structures 2. Skills: Listening- Speaking 3. Method: Communicative approach 4. Techniques/activities: question- answer, discussions, multiple choices 5. Teaching aids needed: textbooks, board, chalk, tape 6. Procedures: Stabilization: (1m) Warm- up: + Greets the Ss b. Checking absence: Checks the Ss’ attendance Checking up previous lesson: (5ms) -calls on some Ss to stand up and talk about the process of applying to a tertiary institution in Viet Nam -Give feedback Presentation of the new material: (35ms) Time Teacher’s activities Students’ activities The content of the lesson 6ms 6ms 15ms 8ms I. Lead-in -divides Ss into 2 groups -asks the Ss to play ” Spy- catcher” Delivers handouts with the following things ( see Appendix) -gives instructions” in 30 seconds, match the pieces of jigsaw puzzle on the left with the pieces on the right to make them meaningful words. The first group to have the most correct answers is the winner” -conducts the game Expected answers: Language / health / weather / accommodation / money / food “ These are some of the problems Ss may encounter while studying overseas” -sets the situation: “You are going to listen to the conversation between John and David talking about their study abroad. Listen and do some tasks below” II. Why?” Example : A: Would you like to do an undergraduate course in your country or abroad? B: I’d like to do an undergraduate course in my country A: Why? B: Because my E.L is not good enough and I can’t afford tuition fees and accommodation for studying aboard / overseas. -The second problem is learning style at university level.
