Date of preparing:23/11/2022 Date of teaching: 26/11/2022 PERIOD 35 : UNIT 5: FOOD AND DRINK LESSON 1: GETTING STARTED I. AIMS 1. Knowledge Students will be able to - Introduce the topic of the unit. - Know more about the name some of food and drink or some verbs of cooking. - Listen and read for specific information about a meal of Mark’s family at a Vietnamese restaurant to have an overview about the topic "Food and Drink" 1.1. Vocabulary: pork, roast, fry (fried), soup, shrimp, mineral water, juice 1.2. Grammar: Describe quantities with: How much/How many some/ any/ a lot of / lots of with: Countable /Uncountable nouns 2. Competences: - Develop communication skills and awareness of the cultural cuisine - Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork - Actively join in class activities - Know how to solve problems in different ways in a creative way. 3. Quality - Develop healthy eating habits and awareness of balanced diets - Be proud of the homeland’s food and drink II.TEACHING AIDS 1. Students: Students’ book, workbook, notebook. 2. Teachers: Students’ book, workbook, lesson plan, tape script, projector, some real things . III.TEACHING PROCEDURES 1. Class organization/ Warm up - Greeting: Are you ready for our lesson today? What topic are we going to study? Let’s see the following clip. - Give a clip in two minutes - Correct: Tell about some popular food or drink *Lead to the topic of the lesson: Let’s study about our topic today: Food and Drink 2. New lesson 2.1. Vocabulary: -T uses the techniques to present the new words - pork (n): /pɔːrk/ thịt lợn (picture) - roast (v) : /rəʊst/ quay, nướng (thịt..) (picture) - fry (v) –fried (adj): /fraɪ(d)/ rán ( trong dầu hoặc mỡ) (picture) - soup (n) /suːp/ món canh (situation) - shrimp (n) ) /ʃrɪmp/: con tôm (picture) - mineral water (n-phr) : /ˈmɪnərəl//ˈwɔːtər/: nước khoáng (visual) - juice (n) /dʒuːs/ nước ép (picture)) -Ask Ss to listen and repeat individually /chorally -Corrects their pronunciation -Ask Ss to copy down 2.2. Activities a. Activity 1: Listen and read. (part 1 page 50) . * Objective: Grasp the content of the conversation * Content: Listen and read the conversation to complete the tasks related to the topic of the unit. * Output: Complete the tasks * Process: - Ask Ss to look at the picture (p.50-51) and answer the questions: +Who is this? +Where does Mark's family eat dinner? - Have Ss answer freely - Correct: It’s a waiter. They’re at a Vietnamese restaurant -Give a question What are they doing now? /What is Math’s family doing? - Have Ss share their answers as a whole class. => Let’s listen and read the conversation to check your answers. b. Activity 2: What is Math’s family doing? (Part 2 page 51) * Objective: Give a correct answer for this question * Content: Choose the answer: They order the food or prepare their food or talk about their food * Output: Base on the main idea of the text and correct the answer * Process: - Have Ss ask and answer questions What is Mark's family doing? A. Ordering food for dinner. B. Preparing for their dinner. C. Talking about their favourite food. - Play the recording and ask Ss to listen and read. - Ask Ss to practice the dialogue in groups of five, - Ask them to read again the conversation and check their answers. - Have Ss compare the answers with the food partner. - Have Ss share the answers with two others Ss. - Give a correct answer: A. (They are) ordering for dinner *Lead to the next task: To understand the conversation deeply, we are going to read the following information. c. Activity 3: Read the conversation again and tick (✓) T (True) or F (False). (Part 4 page 51). * Objective: Help Ss deeply understand the text : Mark’s family dinner * Content: Check five information and correct true or false statements more clearly * Output: Help Ss grasp deeply about the favorite food/drink and eating habits of mark’s family members * Process : - Give the clear instructions and ask Ss to work individually step by step: + Read the statements carefully and underline key words to guess the answer quickly + Scan the conversation to locate the underlined key words *Suggested keywords in the statements: 1. Mark's family is at a Vietnamese restaurant. 2. Mark wants fried tofu and beef for dinner. 3. They don't order canh chua. 4. Mark's mum wants mineral water. 5. His mum doesn't allow her children to drink juice during dinner. - Have Ss read the statements aloud and say which ones are True and False - Ask Ss to find out the information in the conversation to correct their answers - Have the others attentively listen to and correct their answers if necessary. - Check and give the correct answers. Answer key: 1. T 2. F(Mark wants some fried tofu and spring rolls.) 3. F (Mark's dad thinks they will try some canh chua) 4. T 5. F (Mineral water for me, green tea for my husband, and juice for my children) *Lead to the next task: There are many kinds of food or drink for Mark’s family dinner. What are they ? Let’s study the following exercise. d. Activity 4: Find the words and phrases about food and drink in the conversation and write them in the correct columns. (Part 3 page 51) . * Objective: Help Ss practice reading and listening for specific information Develop Ss' vocabulary for food and drink * Content: Find out the words and phrases about food and drink in the conversation and write them in the correct columns: Food or Drink * Output: Develop Ss' vocabulary for food and drink in the conversation Widen more Ss' vocabulary for food and drink * Process: - Ask Ss to work individually to read and listen to the conversation and find the words and phrases and then share their answers with their partners who sit next to them. - Ask Ss to do exercise 3 individually - Ask Ss to share and discuss with their partners to write all words/ phrases down on the notebooks. - Correct their answers as a class. Answer key: Food Drink rice, pork, fish sauce, roast juice, lemonade, green tea, chicken, fried vegetables, fried mineral water, winter melon tofu, spring rolls, canh (soup), juice. shrimp, fish. *Game: (Teamwork): Add more the name of food or drink you know in Viet Nam? - Guide Ss to play game +Team A: Write about the food +Team B: Write about the drink -Correct as much as possible (both teacher and Ss) *Lead to the next task by the question: There is too much food and drink, so what is your favorite food/drink? What is four friend’s favorite food/drink? - Let’s discuss about favorite food/drink in our class. e. Activity 5: Work in pairs. Think about your favorite food and drink. Then ask your partner about his or her favorite food and drink ( Part 5 page 51) . * Objective: Be able to talk about favorite food and drink Develop Ss' vocabulary for food and drink by teamwork skills * Content: Make role play: Think about your favorite food and drink, ask and answer your partner about his or her favorite food and drink * Output: Develop Ss' vocabulary for food and drink Give students authentic practice in using target language in order to make sure Ss can role-play effectively. * Process: - Guide Ss clear instructions in order to make sure Ss can role-play effectively. - Give a model first: T put some questions and Ss answer - Ask Ss to note the underlined words to replace if necessary T: What is your favorite food/drink ? Ss: It is noodles / milk T: When do you usually/often have it ? Ss: In the morning/ Everyday . -Give the words in part 3 ( page 51) and Ss base on them to practice easily - Have Ss work in pairs firstly - Ask Ss to choose some useful words/ phrases/ expressions/ word choices .Ss have used and suggest other students using them. - Observe Ss while they are role playing, note their language errors 3. Consolidation - Consolidate what students have learnt in the lesson: Vocabulary about the food and drink. - Read and understand content of the conversation deeply. 4. Homework - Have Ss learn by heart vocabulary of food and drink - Ask Ss to do exercises in workbook: A - Guide Ss to prepare for Project part: + Divide the class into 6 groups of 6 students. + Inform student of the final project of the Unit’s project + Explain the requirements of the project: Design a poster about eating habits in an area or a foreign country you know, including names of main meals and mealtimes; names of common food/ drink for each meal; picture/ photo to illustrate the meals. Students will show their posters and present their ideas in Lesson 7 – Looking back and Project. + Explain to students how they can get the information + Put students into groups and ask them to discuss to assign tasks for each member. Help them set a deadline for each task. (Teacher should check the progress of students’ preparation after each lesson.) 5. Teaching experience (handwriting):
