Period 3 A CLOSER LOOK 1 
I. Objectives: 
1. Knowledge: Students will be able to use vocabulary and structures to talk about one’s favourite hobby, 
to pronounce the sounds /Ə/ and /з:/ in isolation and in context. 
2. Language content: 
- Vocabulary: mountain-climbing, horse-riding, gymnastics 
- The sounds /Ə/ and /з:/ 
II. Teaching aids: CD player, textbook, board and pictures. 
III. Procedures: 
Activities Contents 
1. Match the correct verbs with the hobbies. 
- Ask students to read the action verbs in column A 
and match them with the suitable words/ phrases in 
column B. 
- Remind them that a verb can go with more than 
one word/ phrase. 
- Have students compare the answer with a partner. 
- Check and confirm the correct answers. 
2. Fill in each blank with one hobby or one 
action verb. 
- Ask students to work in pairs to do this activity. 
- Check and confirm the correct answers. 
3. Write down keywords. 
- Explain and model the way to locate keywords. 
- Ask students to work in pairs to write the 
keywords. 
- Check and confirm the correct answers. 
4. Game: THE KEY TO MY HOBBY 
- Ask students to work in groups to play the 
guessing game. 
5. Pronunciation: /Ə/ and /з:/ listen and tick. 
- Ask students to listen and tick the words they 
hear. 
- Call students to read the words. 
6. Listen and put the words in the correct 
column. 
- Play the recording again. Ask students to put the 
words in the correct column while they listen. 
7. Listen to the sentences and tick /Ə/ or /з:/ 
- Ask students to listen to the sentences and tick. 
- Have them compare their answers with a partner.

1. Knowledge: Students will be able to use the present simple, the future simple and verbs of liking + V-
ing correctly and appropriately 
2. Language content: 
- Vocabulary: Monopoly (n) 
- Grammar: the present simple, the future simple and Verbs of liking + V-ing 
II. Teaching aids: 
Textbook, board and pictures. 
III. Procedures:

1. Complete the sentences. Use the present 
simple or the future simple form of verbs. 
- Ask students to present the form and usage of 
these two tenses before doing the exercise. 
- Have students compare the answer with a partner.
