UNIT 4: LEARNING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE

Lesson 5: WRITE

I. OBJECTIVES:

1. Educational aims: Be polite in writing letters of inquiry or request

2. Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to write a letter of inquiry to the institution requesting for more formation about the course and fees.

II. PREPARATIONS: Book, extra - board

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – up: (5’)

Have Ss say again the format of a “formal letter”

-Writer’s address and the date

-Opening: Dear .

-Body of letter

-Closing: Your faithfully/ Sincerely

I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Educational aims: Be polite in writing letters of inquiry or request
2. Teaching aims: By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to write a letter of inquiry to the institution requesting for more formation about the course and fees.

III. PROCEDURES:

1. Warm – up: (5’)
Have Ss say again the format of a “formal letter”
Writer’s address and the date
Opening: Dear .
Body of letter
Closing: Your faithfully/ Sincerely
2. Pre - writing (10’)
+ Activity 1:
- Give Ss a letter that is cut into four parts
- Have Ss order them into the complete letter
1. I speak a little Vietnamese, but I want to learn to read and write it. Could you please send details of courses and fees? I can complete a spoken Vietnamese test if necessary.
2. I look forward to hearing from you.

3. Dear Sir,
I saw your school’s advertisement in today’s edition of Vietnam news
4. I am interested in learning Vietnamese and I would like some information about your school.
+ Activity 2:
- Have Ss match four parts of a letter of inquiry to Robinson’s letter

- Call Ss to get feedback
- Explain more each part of a letter of inquiry

3. While - writing (20’)
- Have Ss read three advertisements on page 36 and choose one of the school they want to attend to improve their English
- Have Ss talk each part of a letter
- Have Ss combine 4 parts into a letter
- Have Ss write a letter:

Dear Sir,
I saw your school’s advertisement in today ‘s TV program.
I am interested in learning English and I would like some information about your school.
My speaking is terrible, but I want to improve my reading and writing. Could you please end details of courses and fees for beginner level? I can complete a spoken English test if necessary.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Your faithfully,
- Read three advertisements again
- Talk each part of a letter
- Have Ss write a letter
- Work individually 
4. Post - writing (8’)
- Have Ss exchange their letter, correct their friend’s letter
- Call 2 Ss to read their letters.
- Listen and correct
 - Work in pairs.
- Read the letter.
- Listen.
5. Homework (2’)
- Write the letter in their notebook
- Prepare next lesson: Unit 4: Language Focus/ p. 38
