I. AIMS
1. Knowledge 
Students will be able to: 
- Develop their reading skill for specific information about food and drink
- Talk about the popular food and drink 
1.1. Vocabulary: snack, taste, broth, stew, boneless 
1.2. Grammar: review
2. Competences 
- Develop communication skills and creativity
- Be collaborative and supportive in pair work and teamwork
- Develop presentation skills
- Actively join in class activities
3. Quality 
- Promote pride in the values of Vietnamese culture 
- Develop love for family and traditional food and drink

1. Students: Students ‘book, workbook
2. Teachers: Students ‘book, workbook, projector, pictures, sachmem.vn
III. TEACHING PROCEDURES
1.Class organization/ Warm up: chatting
* Game: Writting a shopping list
- Put Ss in small groups
- Give each group an occasion for which they will design a meal . Assign each group a meal 
from this list. 
 A fancy meal for 5 people.
 A picnic in the park.
 A child’s birthday party.
- Each group agrees upon a shopping list of all the things they need for this meal.
- When finished each group joins another group . One group reads its list for the other group 
to guess the occasion they are preparing for.
- To create an active atmosphere in the class before the lesson.
- To get students interested in the topic.
2. New lesson
2.1. Vocabulary 
- snack(n) /snổk/: đồ ăn vặt (picture)
- taste (v) /teɪst/: nếm (picture)
- broth (n)/brɒθ/: nước dựng, canh (picture)
- stew(v) /stju:/: hầm (picture)
- boneless (adj)/ˈbəʊnləs/: khụng xương (picture)
2.2. Activities * Reading
a. Activity 1: Work in pairs. Discuss the following questions. (Part 1 - Page 56)
* Objective: To help Ss understand and activate their knowledge of the topic
* Content: Read the passage and discuss about “Pho”, using suggested questions. 
* Output: Ss can understand the passage and complete the task.
* Process: 
- Read the passage and gives Ss some time to discuss about “Pho”, using suggested questions. 
 1. Is pho popular in your neighbourhood? 
 2. When can we have pho? 
 3. What are the main ingredients of pho? 
- Ss discuss as guided. 
- After discussing, Ss talk about pho in front of the class. 
- Listen and may ask some other questions about how to make Pho.
b. Activity 2: Read Phong’s blog. Match the underlined words in the text with their 
meanings. (Part 2 – page 56)
* Objective: 
- To get Ss acquainted with the reading skill: Predicting the meaning of new vocab using 
context. 
- To help Ss understand new vocab in the reading text.To help students use key language 
more appropriately
* Content: Scan the passage and match 
* Output : Ss can understand the passage and complete the task.
* Process :
- Ss quickly locate the words, read with full concentration and complete focus, predict and 
match them with the provided meanings. 
- Ss swap their answers with each other. 
- Check the answers as a class, confirms the correct answers. 
- For weak classes, Teacher may ask for translation to check understanding.

c. Activity 3: Read Phong’s blog again and circle the correct answer A, B or C. (Part 3 - 
page 56)
* Objective: To help Ss develop their reading skill for specific information 
* Content: Read and complete the task.
* Output : Ss can understand the passage and complete the task.
* Process: 
- Give instructions. 
- Ss work individually to carefully read and underline key words in the given part of the 
sentences and three options of the other part that fit in. 
1. The text is mainly about _______.
 A. pho, a popular dish in Viet Nam 
 B. popular dishes in Viet Nam 
 C. different ways to cook pho 
2. Pho is made mainly with ______. 
 A. rice noodles and beef or chicken B. rice, pork, and vegetables 
 C. fish, shrimp, and noodles 
3. We enjoy pho ______. 
 A. only for breakfast 
 B. for lunch and dinner 
 C. at any time of the day 
4. To make noodles for pho, we use _____.
 A. a variety of sticky rice 
 B. the best kind of rice 
 C. eggs and rice flour 
5. The broth for pho is made by _____. 
 A. slowly cooking beef or chicken bones 
 B. cooking beef or chicken with fish sauce 
 C. boiling potatoes and chicken bones for a long time 
- Ss locate the key words in the text, thoroughly read the text to choose the correct option to 
complete the sentences. 
- Tell them to underline parts of the passage that help them with the answers and set a strict 
time limit to ensure Ss read the text quickly for information.
-Ss share their answers with others to compare their choices in pairs before showing them in 
the class and to Teacher. 
- Ask them to give evidence when giving the answers. 
- Nominate some Ss to read the completed sentences aloud, listens and then gives them 
correct answers.

*Speaking
d. Activity 4: Make notes about a popular food and drink in your area. Think about its 
main ingredients, how often and when you have it. ( Part 4 - page 56)
* Objective: To help Ss prepare ideas for the speaking activity
* Content: Make notes and think about a popular food or drink in their area
* Output: Ss can complete the task
* Process 
- Ask Ss to brainstorm or use a mind map/ web to make notes about a popular food and drink 
in their area in groups of 4 or 5 Ss. (Teacher can show them a mind map as a sample)
- Ss think about a popular food or drink in their area, its ingredients and how often and when 
people in their neighbourhood have it and note down quickly these ideas as instructed during 
the time limit set by the teacher. - Ss share their ideas with other groups. 
- Ask them some extra questions to help Ss if they lack ideas or if they have had too many 
ones to choose from.
e.Activity 5: Work in groups of 3 or 4. Take turns to talk about a popular food or drink 
in your area. (Part 5 – page 56)
* Objective: To provide an opportunity for Ss to practice talking about a popular food or 
drink.
* Content: Talk about a popular food or drink in your area
* Output: Ss can complete the task and make to model this activity 
* Process: 
- Ask Ss to talk using the notes/ maps/ webs that they have prepared in their own group and 
then nominates some of them (maybe, strong students) to model this activity in front of the 
class. 
- Ss practise. 
- Then, Ss listen to their classmates presenting and give positive comments to the others'. 
- Give feedbacks.
3. Consolidation
- Help students to recall information they’ve learned during class and reflect on gaps in their 
knowledge
- Summarize what they have learnt with the two skills. If there is time, and for more able Ss. T 
can instruct them to draw a mind map to summarize the main points of the lesson.
4. Homework
-video your presentation about popular food and drink.
-learn vocab and do ex part D (unit 5 workbook page 39-40)
-prepare for the next lesson unit 5- skills 2.
